So I did $ apt-get dist-upgrade It didn't fix kdenlive, but I have more clues to report... 1.) kdenlive issued a few warnings at the command line: Invalid playlist Removing cache at "/home/kingsley/.cache/kdenlive-thumbs.kcache" Invalid playlist QCursor: Cannot create bitmap cursor; invalid bitmap(s) ALSA lib pulse.c:243:(pulse_connect) PulseAudio: Unable to connect: Protocol error QXcbConnection: XCB error: 8 (BadMatch), sequence: 936, resource id: 35651614, major code: 155 (Unknown), minor code: 11 The X11 connection broke: I/O error (code 1) XIO: fatal IO error 0 (Success) on X server ":0" after 979 requests (979 known processed) with 0 events remaining. 2.) other people seem to have encountered this, or a similar, bug https://bugs.kde.org/346413 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351730 3.) it might be related to Qt5 https://kdenlive.org/ says "There are a few issues/crashes in Kdenlive related to Qt5/KF5 bugs" and lines #33 through #38 in my stack trace above seem to involve libQt5 code. I wish I didn't feel the need to mention this, but at least for me, version 15.08.2+git20151026-1 is unusable. Please feel free to let me know if you have any suggestions.
