My previous procedure using deborphan isn't perfect. The packages samba-common and samba-common-bin, for example, are not shown by deborphan with default options. Another strategy would be to remove "all but actually wanted packages". The "debfoster" package will help you to build a list of "really wanted packages". Thanks.
