The new DEP-11 package metadata format, as used in Ubuntu Xenial (16.04), is not supported by the current version of apt-cacher. This makes the program unusable for newer versions of the distribution. (As DEP-11 is a Debian thing, it is likely that this affects support for newer versions of Debian as well.)
