PS: After doing the following, tapping worked again:
$ sudo mkdir /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d $ sudo cp /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ Now I can switch this feature off and on in the Cinnamon settings, so this is not a bug in Cinnamon at all. I will forward it to the maintainers of xserver-xorg-input-synaptics. Cheers, Christian
