It may be that there are size considerations that preclude turning on such 
features for kernels on certain arm devices (armel comes to mind with 
SheevaPlug and OpenRD as examples).

I’m not sure of that — and definitely unsure of the details, but I guess the 
linux package maintainers will know for sure.
