Just got new pulseaudio upgrades (in Debian Stretch): HDMI audio is working again. All good.

Upgrade: libpulsedsp:amd64 (9.0-1.1, 9.0-2), pulseaudio:amd64 (9.0-1.1, 9.0-2), libpulse0:amd64 (9.0-1.1, 9.0-2), libpulse-mainloop-glib0:amd64 (9.0-1.1, 9.0-2), pulseaudio-module-bluetooth:amd64 (9.0-1.1, 9.0-2), pulseaudio-utils:amd64 (9.0-1.1, 9.0-2) Remove: pulseaudio-module-x11:amd64 (9.0-1.1) )
