Debian's smartmontools package logs to /var/log/syslog, not messages. The /etc/logwatch/conf/services/smartd.conf should be updated to reflect this.
And it does not log also to daemon.log? I'd prefer to use daemon.
Maybe some of the other service files need similar updates? Debian doesn't seem to log very much to /var/log/messages.
The problem is, it's impossible for me to check the log facility and priority for every package. This needs user input. So feel free to report any wrong LogFile configuration you find.
