Package: localechooser Version: 2.69 Severity: wishlist Hello,
I have been told several times that it was a bit sad that the Debian installer basically imposess that the translations be the same as the locale, i.e. notably not being able to have all messages in english while using a non-english locale. Of course we don't want to add questions for the user to specify exactly for each LC_* which locale to be used, but the language part seems to be asked quite often, so it could be worth implementing it. We could make it work that way for France for instance, it would not actually add any new question, just add possibilities to the existing questions: - user selects english language - user selects "other" country - user selects Europe then France - in the proposed list of locales, also propose the locales for the given country, not only for the given language. - if such a country-locale is chosen, set LANGUAGE=en so that the messages continue in english even if a non-english locale was selected. What do people think about it?
