Package: isc-dhcp-client
Version: 4.3.5~b1-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
This behavior comes when DHCP server goes down/gets irresponsible.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
On headless NAS station I have had lease stanza in dhclient.conf, generated
by uncommenting default example comming with the package and only adjusting
values I understood exactly (like IP address, mask, router address etc. I
left
renew, expire and so times intact as I expected they are set in past
intentionally
   (e.g. to provoke processing).

   * What was the outcome of this action?
After DHCP down NAS got irresponsive even on the preconfigured (fallback) ip
address.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Finally I took machine out of server room, attached keyboard and monitor and
found out
it really does not configure ip address from lease stanza.
Using google from other comp I finally found the old Debian bug report
#100886.
Indeed, changing the times to future (even as far as 2020) worked like a
charm.

As the original bug report #100886 even contains patch proposal and it's
only "sin"
is that it was reported against version 2.x while we hav 4.x now (but still
containing
the same bug), I ask politely to review and reconsider that bugreport and
apply
patch (maybe bit adapted to version 4.x) into package code.

   Thank you in advance.

NOTE: I am reporting from my desktop comp, so the bellow technical details
are NOT
related to the machine in question. However there is some 2 months old
Debian 8
   instalation there.
