Machine: selfmade, Mainboard MSI K8T Neo-V Processor: AMD Sempron 3100+ E6 Memory: 512 MB Partitions: df -T1 doesn't work in the installer shell, df alone shows only tmpfs but we have: 1. sata 160 gb hd, detected as /dev/scsi/host0/lun0 resp. /dev/sda with part1/sda1: primary, 40 gb ntfs part2/sda2: primary, 40 gb unformatted part3/sda3: extended part5/sda5: logical, 60 gb ntfs part6/sda6: logical, 20 gb ntfs 2. 256 mb usb stick detected as /dev/scsi/host2/lun0 resp. /dev/sdb with part1/sdb1: 128 mb fat16 installer bootable image Output of lspci and lspci -n: lspci is not available in the installer shell (but the syslog shows, the chipset/usb/ide have been loaded) Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot worked: [O] Configure network HW: [ ] Config network: [ ] Detect CD: [ ] Load installer modules: [ ] Detect hard drives: [ ] Partition hard drives: [ ] Create file systems: [ ] Mount partitions: [ ] Install base system: [ ] Install boot loader: [ ] Reboot: [ ] Comments/Problems: Boot works, also the language, country and keyboard selection, but the installer fails to find the iso after trying /dev/scsi/host[02]/lun0/disc and /part[12356] resp part1 as well as /dev/sda[12356] and /sdb1 it should have found it in /dev/scsi/host2/lun0/part1 resp /dev/sdb1, but it fails. dmesg and /var/log/syslog have entries: FAT|KERNEL: codepage cp437 not found FAT|KERNEL: unable to load NLS charset cp437 trying to mount /dev/sdb1 (or a floppy) by hand gives: invalid parameter it seems, that the nls_cp437 module is missing in the installer package, I cannot find it in /lib/modules/2.6.12-1.amd64-generic/kernel either This is exactly the same error as reported already as bug 330093, but unfortunately the reporter tried to use another installer (that could find the iso, but not load it due to the version mismatch) and filed another bug (344722) closing the previous, and the latter was closed because of unsupported installer/image version mix. The original problem never got addressed ... Should be easy to include the proper cp437 module in the boot image ...
