Either run this under Python 2 or consult http://click.pocoo.org/python3/ for mitigation steps. This system supports the C.UTF-8 locale which is recommended. You might be able to resolve your issue by exporting the following environment variables: export LC_ALL=C.UTF-8 export LANG=C.UTF-8
Shouldn't LANG=C be supported by everything? This is kind of a problem for scripting use of wormhole, when any translations of the output need to be avoided. While C.UTF-8 is available in recent versions of Debian, I doubt it's available widely elsewhere. For example, it's not available on OSX. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.8.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages magic-wormhole depends on: ii python3-autobahn 0.14.1+dfsg1-2 ii python3-click 6.6-1 ii python3-hkdf 0.0.3-1 ii python3-nacl 1.0.1-2 ii python3-six 1.10.0-3 ii python3-spake2 0.7-2 ii python3-tqdm 4.8.4-1 ii python3-twisted 16.6.0-2 pn python3:any <none> magic-wormhole recommends no packages. magic-wormhole suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- see shy jo
