the package lists "text/plain" and "application/octet-stream" as MIME

This means that depending on other packages installed etc,
applications such as firefox offer pronterface as the first option to
open text files or generic binary files.

Please remove those generic MIME types and just keep the ones that
are
really relevant, such as "application/sla".

Hi Crhistian, thanks for the report.

Miro, I believe you introduced the MimeType line on pronterface.desktop
upstream [1]. Does this happen on Fedora too? Will it make any sense to
forward such change upstream?

Yes. And the real fix would be to introduce a real mime type for ascii and binary STLs as well as GCODEs in [2]. I was planning to do it long time ago.
