Package: installation-reports

Hello,

I have had poor luck with the 3.1 installer.

Is there any disadvantage to using the 3.0 installer with minimal base system
and upgrading via ppp?

5.3.5. Submitting Installation Reports

   If you still have problems, please submit an installation report. We
   also encourage installation reports to be sent even if the
   installation is successful, so that we can get as much information as
   possible on the largest number of hardware configurations. Please use
   this template when filling out installation reports, and file the
   report as a bug report against the "installation-reports" pseudo
   package, by sending it to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

Comments/Problems:

Attempted 3 times with no different result. Here's my verbatim notes,
but note that the 'save bug logs' also failed.

Boot with Grub floppy disk

        root (hd1,4)
        kernel (hd1,4)/hd-media/2.6/vmlinuz \ [ all on one line]
                devfs=mount,dall
                root=/dev/ram0
                ramdisk_size=12000
                debconf/priority=low

                [added these for last try]
                hw-detect/start_pcmcia=false
                netcfg/disable_dhcp=true
                debian-installer/probe/usb=false
                debian-installer/framebuffer=false

         initrd (hd1,4)/hd-media/2.6/initrd.gz

get to load installer components, returns us to this menu choice
run it again, and again, it returns us to the network hardware choice
run detect network hardware, and again, and again, and again,
skip that, go to configure network
spits back to detect network hardware.
choose free memory
goes to detect hardware
partition disks
gets partway along the progress bar (about 28%)
get error codes, scrolling up screen
        [<c0105f97>] syscall_call+0x7/0xb
        segmentation fault
eventually puts back to menu
choose save debug logs,
more error codes.
eventually, I just Ctrl-Alt-Del
