This is a problem in the Yahoo protocol plugin. It might be fixed in a newer version of gaim, which is available from backports.org.

Package: gaim

Installing gaim on a Via technologies mini-ITX VT8626 (Apollo CLE266
with Castlerock graphics) running with ice window manager

- apt-get install gaim
- Entered passwords and then nothing
- Tried to enter gaim from the window manager I received "Normal
Authentication failed"...will now attempt to login using
    webmessanger authentication
- Entering "gaim" from a console gave me the following message "Gaim
has segfaulted and attempted to dump a core file"

I do not know how to copy a backtrace from the console so this is my typing of
the backtrace

#0 0x40c6d3d3 in to_y64 () from /usr/lib/gaim/libyahoo.so
#1 0x40c6d547 in to_y64 () from /usr/lib/gaim/libyahoo.so
#2 0x0809e369 in gaim_url_parse ()
#3 0x080cbfff in gaim_gtkdialogs_remove_chat ()
#4 0x405bbdbf in g_vasprintf () from /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0
#5 0x40596582 in g_main_context_dispatch () from /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0
#6 0x405975f8 in g_main_context_dispatch () from /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0
#7 0x40597530 in g_main_context_dispatch () from /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0
#8 0x40597ed3 in g_main_loop_run () from /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0
#9 0x40256bb3 in gtk_main () from /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0
#10 0x080f8353 in main ()

I have since tried to reinstall gaim and each time it is has failed.

I have reported this bug on sourceforge but in discussing this with some
others in a LUG, I was advised to use reportbug.

Possible problems from my side:
- I think I have the wrong graphics card driver for this system, when
things are slightly less manic I will try and update the drivers
- I suspect that I have the wrong Language and lc-type on my X-windows
    set up but they work....
Otherwise no idea. I love the program and use it whereever possible.
Currently I am running centericq
