Package: python-ethtool

Version: 0.12-1

Severity: grave

When I try to get the MAC address of an interface using the get_hwaddr() on
Debian Stretch, I get a segmentation fault. This problem is not present on
Debian Jessie. I experienced this issue hen trying to register a Debian Stretch
machine to a SpaceWalk using rhnreg_ks command from the package
rhn-client-tools.

~ # python
Python 2.7.13 (default, Jan 19 2017, 14:48:08)
[GCC 6.3.0 20170118] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import ethtool
>>> ethtool.get_hwaddr('lo')
Segmentation fault
[...]
>>> ethtool.get_hwaddr(‘eth0’)
Segmentation fault

Because of this issue, RHN tools cannot be used without the option
"skipNetwork", which is not set by default by the package rhn-client-tools.

I am using Debian GNU/Linux 9.0, kernel 4.9.6-3 and libc6 2.24-9.
