Package can't be installed due to dbconfig errors. Dbconfig makes bad
entries in /etc/phpmyadmin/config-db.php:
Do you have the logging from /var/log/apt/term.log* during the install?

Is this reproducible for you? Can you run the install with the following
variables set and attach the output log to this bug?:
export dbc_debug=true
export DEBCONF_DEBUG=developer

Be sure to scan the results for sensitive data as I am not sure how much
is exposed by this.

Piuparts is able to successfully install phpmyadmin¹, so I believe it
must be something specific in your situation. Did you have phpmyadmin
installed in the passed and removed and or purged it maybe? And how
about dbconfig-common? Anything unusual in your setup? Did you go for
the standard questions, or did you install with lower debconf priority?
Please, any details will help to figure out what is wrong on your system.

Paul
