Thanks for the fast response!

I didn't realize that Debian doesn't maintain their archive sites. 

The fix you suggested doesn't seem to work. The following two commands do not 
work either.
sudo apt-get --allow-unauthenticated upgrade
sudo apt-get -o Acquire::Check-Valid-Until=false update

I'm trying to get an old scientific application to compile and don't have the 
option on running it on a modern OS without rewriting large pieces of it (I 
tried) and would really appreciate any help.
