Package: ifupdown Version: 0.7.53.1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer,
* What led up to the situation? Adding hwaddr config line into /etc/network/interfaces config file * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? After installation of macchanger everything worked flawlessly, before installation of macchanger mac address just did not change and I did not notice any error message (searched log files, maybe I overlooked it) * Solution? Problem could be probably resolved by workaround using ip link set hwaddr functionality instead of macchanger or marking macchanger as at least optional functionality of ifupdown package and mentioning in manpage of "interfaces" (/etc/network/interfaces) that hwaddr funcionality needs macchanger as dependency. (It is misleading because same effect can be done with ip link which is installed by default, so I did not expect that macchanger is crucial to hwaddr config option to work) Macchanger is not part of minimal image and is not dependency of ifupdown, so it can be easily missing in system. Iproute2 is part of minimal image and also dependency of ifupdown. -- System Information: Distributor ID: Raspbian Description: Raspbian GNU/Linux 8.0 (jessie) Release: 8.0 Codename: jessie Architecture: armv7l Kernel: Linux 4.9.24-v7+ (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages ifupdown depends on: ii adduser 3.113+nmu3 ii initscripts 2.88dsf-59 ii iproute2 3.16.0-2 ii libc6 2.19-18+deb8u9 ii lsb-base 4.1+Debian13+rpi1+nmu1 Versions of packages ifupdown recommends: ii dhcpcd5 [dhcp-client] 6.7.1-1+rpi5 ii isc-dhcp-client [dhcp-client] 4.3.1-6+deb8u2 Versions of packages ifupdown suggests: ii net-tools 1.60-26 pn ppp <none> pn rdnssd <none> -- no debconf information
