I hope you mean "since nsswitch.conf is a conffile" here.


Ok, I'm going to make nsswitch.conf not to be a conffile in two steps:

Step 1. Undo the change made in base-files 3.1.8 and go back to the previous
default nsswitch.conf.

Step 2. After the package reaches testing, base-files is updated again
so that the file is created in the postinst (i.e. debootstrap),
instead of it being a conffile.

Then libnss-mdns should be free to modify /etc/nsswitch.conf, provided
the user is asked a suitable debconf question having a suitable
priority and a suitable default answer.

Then things will "just work", as everybody wants.
