Package: uml-utilities Version: 20070815.1-2+b2 Severity: important On current Debian Test (Buster), uml-utilities seems to be broken in providing the console. This results in the UML instance not providing a shell to access it.

The solution is to upgrade to the latest release of uml_utilities. Usually this problem occurs when you have installed a packaged release of UML then compiled your own development kernel without upgrading the uml_utilities from the source distribution. =x=x=x=x=x=x=x=x=x=x=x=x=x=x=x=x= I am not sure how to take this. uml-utilities itself hasn't changed in quite a while. Also, the port-helper tool is already present. rrs@priyasi:~$ file /usr/lib64/uml/port-helper /usr/lib64/uml/port-helper: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, interpreter /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, for GNU/Linux 2.6.32, BuildID[sha1]=c5b2768784b67d1a4b0dfd900938efe22b1d4f9a, stripped 13:36 ♒♒♒ ☺ rrs@priyasi:~$ linux ubd0=~/rrs-home/NoTrack/uml.img eth0=daemon mem=1024M rw Core dump limits : soft - 0 hard - NONE Checking that ptrace can change system call numbers...OK Checking syscall emulation patch for ptrace...OK Checking advanced syscall emulation patch for ptrace...OK Checking environment variables for a tempdir...none found Checking if /dev/shm is on tmpfs...OK Checking PROT_EXEC mmap in /dev/shm...OK Adding 18419712 bytes to physical memory to account for exec-shield gap Linux version 4.9.25 (root@x86-csail-01) (gcc version 6.3.0 20170516 (Debian 6.3.0-18) ) #2 Sun May 21 14:29:37 UTC 2017 Built 1 zonelists in Zone order, mobility grouping on.
