I, accidentaly, find a way to fix the bad behavior and come closer to the origin of the bug.
My keyboard was behaving strangely since the apt-get upgrade I made
this morning: layout was moving without any specific reasons to the
english layout (the default one).
I thus removed all layout but the french one I used.
Immediately after that the behavior of evince, gedit, etc. changed to
the expected one : when I hit the keyboard "Z" physical key which
sends the "W" logical key each application received it ("W")
correctly.
Just for the sake of curiosity, I then :
- re-add an english-UK layout (which is now *second* on the list of
available keyboard layout)
- switch to it
- try to press the physical "Z" key in gedit, which with this layout
should sends the logical "Z" key
- noticed than in this case the "W" key is received as if the french
layout is still in use
It seems that these gnome apps honor only the *first* layout in the
input keyboard layout list.
Would be rassured if someone else is able to reproduce the bug in same
conditions.
