Just to be clear, the successor supported by GnuPG upstream is
python-gpg (or, preferably, python3-gpg), not python-pgp.  If there are
difficulties in porting things to python-gpg, please raise those concerns
on the upstream mailing list:

Thanks to Tobias for his triage work in encouraging this sort of
