Just thought I'd try this again, in case anything's changed. I ran
identifiy on all the images and it was fine:
100_4400.jpg JPEG 1200x900 DirectClass 240kb
100_4401.jpg[1] JPEG 1200x900 DirectClass 221kb
100_4501.jpg[2] JPEG 1200x900 DirectClass 171kb
100_4626.jpg[3] JPEG 1200x900 DirectClass 294kb
100_4627.jpg[4] JPEG 1200x900 DirectClass 288kb
100_4646.jpg[5] JPEG 1200x900 DirectClass 160kb
100_4650.jpg[6] JPEG 900x1200 DirectClass 199kb 0.120u 0:02
100_4654.jpg[7] JPEG 1200x900 DirectClass 274kb
100_4655.jpg[8] JPEG 1200x900 DirectClass 267kb
100_4657.jpg[9] JPEG 900x1200 DirectClass 214kb
100_4680.jpg[10] JPEG 1200x900 DirectClass 171kb

trying to upload the files again gives a webpage with these 2 error:
Warning: fread(): Length parameter must be greater than 0. in
/usr/share/gallery2/modules/exif/lib/exifer/exif.inc on line 545
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to
allocate 637377499 bytes) in
/usr/share/gallery2/modules/exif/lib/exifer/exif.inc on line 545

Nothing in the apache2 error log.
