Unfortunately I still can't reproduce this, instead I get other issues. (They were partly fixed by the recent xdg-utils 1.1.2-1 update. For the tests I made sure that gio open/xdg-open default to your .desktop file from post #1, and tried to open a pdf. Here this starts wine, but ends up in an infinite loop of restarting it, but without giving "your" error message. This happens both with and without quotation marks here.) So I'd like to ask you to file a bug at https://bugs.winehq.org/ (note the info on https://wiki.winehq.org/Bugs). Please verify if the old .desktop file still causes problems today (remember that we have a Debian specific patch which prevents the creation of these general .desktop files today), and if your solution still works. (Of course I expect both to do so.) If you have any uncommon system-settings that might also be noteworthy information. Further you might mention the other url from the ARCH user, and this bug here. Following that please send a mail to this bugreport starting with the following lines (XXXXX obviously being your new bugnumber): control: forwarded -1 https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=XXXXX control: tags -1 - moreinfo + upstream Greets jre
