We're on it.

I filed a ticket upstream at https://github.com/emacs-ess/ESS/issues/465 and
we pretty much arrived at the same solution. It looks like I need to add just
that to the 50ess.el.

Some parts of upstream (CC'ed, Hi Lionel!) are updating/modernizing a lot of
the code in ess, but are a little unaware about how it may get loaded by
distros downstream.  I am sure we can iron this out.
