Package: rxvt-unicode Version: 9.22-2 Severity: important Just like xterm and Emacs, rxvt-unicode has font issues with FreeType 2.8, which uses different rounding rules for ascender and descender for TrueType fonts. 2 consequences: * The window is taller and wider than expected (which can break existing configurations and waste screen space). * There sometimes (not always) are blank lines (rows or columns) between characters, which is an issue for line-drawing characters.
FreeType developers assume that applications should not use the rounded values. This is an important regression. Note: Contrary to xterm, for which the problem occurs only vertically, here it occurs both vertically and horizontally. -- System Information: Debian Release: buster/sid APT prefers unstable-debug APT policy: (500, 'unstable-debug'), (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.14.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=POSIX, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=POSIX (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages rxvt-unicode depends on: ii base-passwd 3.5.44 ii libc6 2.26-1 ii libfontconfig1 2.12.6-0.1 ii libfreetype6 2.8.1-0.1 ii libgcc1 1:7.2.0-18 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.36.11-1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.54.2-5 ii libperl5.26 5.26.1-3 ii libstartup-notification0 0.12-5 ii libx11-6 2:1.6.4-3 ii libxft2 2.3.2-1+b2 ii libxrender1 1:0.9.10-1 ii ncurses-term 6.0+20171125-1 Versions of packages rxvt-unicode recommends: ii fonts-dejavu 2.37-1 ii fonts-ipaexfont-gothic [fonts-japanese-gothic] 00301-4 ii fonts-ipafont-gothic [fonts-japanese-gothic] 00303-18 rxvt-unicode suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
