Proper line wrapping needs proper reformatting of the whole message. E.g. I want lists (starting with '-' or '*') to be preserved (so line wrapping also involves indenting the wrapped line correctly). If text is inside a paragraph the next line needs to be joined with the previous line, etc. etc. It's complicated to get this right so that everybody is happy. Text editors are far better at this. If somebody comes up with a clever formatter I might reconsider but just wrapping the line doesn't cut it in my opinion.
