Using current versions libreoffice-mysql-connector and mariadb, memo fields in existing applications made with libreoffice base show garbage text like this: This is obviously not a case of wrong charset and renders base forms totally unusable. As afaik there is no other comparable desktop database frontend available on linux, this is a grave obstacle. If you purge libreoffice-mysql-connector and install "mysql-connector-linux_4-3_x86_64.oxt" (from https://extensions.libreoffice.org/extensions/mysql-native-connector) instead, you get a version "1.0.4_3", which is correctly working with mariadb also. Particularly as debian has recently switched from MySQL to mariadb, it would be necessary to upgrade the connector to a compatible version as well.
