please provide some more information - add

[logging]
log = true
vmtoolsd.level = debug
vmtoolsd.handler = file


to
/etc/vmware-tools/tools.conf and restart the service.


Then check /var/log/vmware-vmtoolsd.log.

The other vmware logs might be interesting, too.
Also please give power-cycling the VM a try.

If that gives some clue, we can forward it to the upstream issues on
github. If you have a support contract with vmware, opening a case might
speed up things.
