Derek, I reported this in the Debian bug tracking system[1], but I thought I should mention this to you because I believe it's a bug that would affect all users of pdftops. The problem, fully described in the Debian bug report, is that when pdftops puts a bitmap into the generated PostScript, it may create lines starting with "%" and even "%%", which are not comments. This confuses the poster[2] post-processor. I don't know enough about PostScript to lay the blame, but it seems it would be better to avoid creating these lines if possible.
