You wasn't the only, also I had this issue with older cinnamon and I hadn't anymore with cinnamon 3.4 and 3.6 I used in latest year. The issue is 99.9% solved in 3.4.2 with the commit added in the testing build I did for stable but I was unable to reproduce it on fast test on Stretch vm I did.
