Sure, but it's going to be enabled on Ubuntu Dapper's kernel, and this is still a bug that can theoretically be worked around by just handling the error properly; doing so shouldn't require modification of more than two functions.
Sure, that's what I meant by 'the fix just seems to have turned a server crash into an infinite loop for you'. It doesn't explain though why this happens for you but not for (almost) everybody else.
I'll try with preempt disabled, then. But I can't imagine I'm the only person running X.org on amd64 with a preemptible kernel.
