I recently installed libgnome2-perl. Since then apt-listchanges stopped working from within Synaptic, giving "Unknown frontend: gtk" as the reason. I finally found out that on entry listchanges' environment contains variable APT_LISTCHANGES_FRONTEND set to "gtk." Apparently Synaptic is setting that variable, as I could find no other meaningful reference to it besides in the /usr/bin/synaptic binary itself. As far as I know, there is no such GTK frontend, and at least it should be Gnome.
