I recently installed libgnome2-perl. Since then apt-listchanges stopped working
from within Synaptic, giving "Unknown frontend: gtk" as the reason. I finally
found out that on entry listchanges' environment contains variable
APT_LISTCHANGES_FRONTEND set to "gtk." Apparently Synaptic is setting that
variable, as I could find no other meaningful reference to it besides in the
/usr/bin/synaptic binary itself. As far as I know, there is no such GTK
frontend, and at least it should be Gnome.

My listchages.conf reads:
[apt]
frontend=mail
email_address=root
confirm=0
save_seen=/var/lib/apt/listchanges.db
which=both

And debconf's own debconfiguration is:
  debconf-apt-progress/preparing:
  debconf-apt-progress/title:
  debconf-apt-progress/info:
* debconf/frontend: Dialog
* debconf/priority: high

As a workaround I had to modify apt_listchanges.py to ignore the environment
variable.
