gv is not listed as an postscript viewer option in mime-based dialogs (in this case in firefox). It seems that debian system internaly uses application/postscript for postscript files but gv offers only line MimeType=application/ps;application/pdf; in /usr/share/applications/gv.desktop Thus gv is rejected in default listing of viewers (I guess in many applications) and adding application/postscript to the MimeType line could fix it.
