Hello Jonathan, FYI, Fabian contacted me and I accepted to sponsor his NMU. I have been working with him for some time and his uploads are always very good; I've also reviewed the modifications he made and they are sensible. I'll be uploading the package to the DELAYED queue as a courtesy. As a side note, he forked your repository on salsa and did his work on his repo: https://salsa.debian.org/wolff-guest/pkg-backintime I think it makes sense to set up a new "debian/backintime" repository and use his repo as the starting point; I can do that if you want.
