I rebuild the package with debug information from experimental but
unfortunately I could not reproduce the error. Thus, I consider this
issue as fixed ;-)

on my workstation (Debian Testing) I sometimes use boincmgr, but after an
upgrade a few weeks(?) ago, boincmgr does no longer start. I cannot recall the
exact upgrade number as I do not use boincmgr regularily, but for now it does
not properly start:
what does the apt log shows? did you upgrade virtualbox? are you using the home
directory?
now boinc forbids home directory usage, because of security, so this might be
the reason
maybe removing
"ProtectHome=true" from boinc-client.service makes it work?
