Today I upgraded from 1:52.9.1-1 and found thunderbird's UI in English,
which could be rectified by setting intl.locale.requested to "de" in
about:config, as mentioned in README.Debian. However, there seems to be
a better way: by setting intl.locale.requested to the empty string,
thunderbird actually obeys the locale setting again, i.e. with LANG=C it
starts in English, with LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 in German. This is mentioned
in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1413866#c21.
Therefore I think that /etc/thunderbird/pref/thunderbird.js should
contain the following line:
pref("intl.locale.requested", "");
Maybe this helps for lightning too - I don't use lightning, so I have
not tested it.
