Apologies for not responding sooner.  For some reason I cannot seem to
subscribe by email to thunderbird bugs, even though I have no problem with
other packages.

In any case, yes, this problem (along with one or two others) has been
"solved" for a while now by disabling the thunderbird apparmor profile.
Unfortunately, I disabled it long enough ago that I don't have any of the
error messages available in my logs any more.
