The fix suggested in README does not work for Finnish. I do have the Finnish locale package installed:
$ LANG=C apt-cache policy thunderbird-l10n-fi thunderbird-l10n-fi: Installed: 1:60.0-3~deb9u1 Candidate: 1:60.0-3~deb9u1 Version table: *** 1:60.0-3~deb9u1 500 500 http://security.debian.org stretch/updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:52.9.1-1~deb9u1 500 500 http://security.debian.org stretch/updates/main amd64 Packages 1:52.8.0-1~deb9u1 500500 http://approx.toimisto.satatuuli.fi:9999/debian stretch/main amd64 Packages
I have edited the config entry: intl.locale.requested;fi Restarted Thunderbird, UI is still english.By the way, my locale is Finnish, so if Thunderbird behaved nicely it would be in Finnish like before.
$ locale LANG=fi_FI.UTF-8 LANGUAGE= LC_CTYPE="fi_FI.UTF-8" LC_NUMERIC="fi_FI.UTF-8" LC_TIME="fi_FI.UTF-8" LC_COLLATE="fi_FI.UTF-8" LC_MONETARY="fi_FI.UTF-8" LC_MESSAGES="fi_FI.UTF-8" LC_PAPER="fi_FI.UTF-8" LC_NAME="fi_FI.UTF-8" LC_ADDRESS="fi_FI.UTF-8" LC_TELEPHONE="fi_FI.UTF-8" LC_MEASUREMENT="fi_FI.UTF-8" LC_IDENTIFICATION="fi_FI.UTF-8" LC_ALL= -- Tapio Lehtonen OSK Satatuuli
