Package: youtube-dl
Version: 2018.06.18-1.1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

While it's easy to get around reading the long apt description for
youtube-dl with something like 'apt show package | less' or 'apt show
package | head xx' it might not be that intuitive for a novice.

There are simpler tools like aptitude and synaptic, but for whatever
reason they might actually want to use apt instead. Possibly to learn
how to use the command-line. In which case they might just see 50 lines
or so of the ~1000 that's displayed using 'apt show youtube-dl'.

Debian policy 3.4 says: "The description should describe the package
(the program) to a user (system administrator) who has never met it
before so that they have enough information to decide whether they want
to install it."

A solution/outcome could be to limit the list of the supported platform
for youtube-dl to some that can be assumed to be the most relevant.
Possibly pointing to the full list on 'packages.debian.org' or to the
developers site/git repository. That would enable a user to decide if
they want to install the package or not more easily.

Again with a novice in mind: youtube is a "thing", a novice would
probably choose to install something like youtube-dl instead of some
library. If they can manage to install and use a package on Debian
that'd probably encourage them to keep using the OS.

Best regards, Johan.
