Well, I just encountered this situation in a package I maintain
myself (with my work hat on, even!). (#909667 in src:xen.)

Even in that case, having this script would have been helpful. It
would have allowed me to instantly and reliably test my hypothesis as
to the cause. As it was I guessed the right file to touch.

So, would you care to let me know which way I should deal with this ?

I still think this script is relevant to anyone using git for
Debian-style packages (and, maybe, to anyone using git at all). It
certainly doesn't depend on the need to deal both with git and with
source packages (which is what dgit helps with).

Thanks,
Ian.
