A brief look over the debdiff looks like there;'s nothing completely insane in there.
How about an NMU + Adding yourself to the Uploaders. Then we can work in the next few weeks (sorry, literally started a new Job on Monday - so I'm super busy at the moment) and get a shared git repo or similar setup. Sound good?
