As it's not recommended mixing BioC packages from different BioC releases, maybe we can introduce (for next BioC release?) a mechanism similar to the virtual r-api-3.5 package i.e. r-api-bioc-3.8 (provided by r-bioc-biocgenerics). This could avoid to spend other people's time to open bugs like this one or #913527. Best, Dylan
