Hello, the amixer documentation is spotty at best so I cannot tell if this is supposed to work or how. Anyway, using amixer on hardware card works, on pulseaudio it fails without any explanation whatsoever. Alsamixer works on either: ~ $ amixer Simple mixer control 'Master',0 Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: Playback 0 - 65536 Mono: Front Left: Playback 0 [0%] [on] Front Right: Playback 0 [0%] [on] Simple mixer control 'Capture',0 Capabilities: cvolume cswitch cswitch-joined Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: Capture 0 - 65536 Front Left: Capture 65536 [100%] [on] Front Right: Capture 65536 [100%] [on] ~ $ amixer -c 0 sset Master playback 1dB- Simple mixer control 'Master',0 Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined Playback channels: Mono Limits: Playback 0 - 39 Mono: Playback 25 [64%] [-21.00dB] [on] ~ $ amixer -c 0 sset Master playback 1dB+ Simple mixer control 'Master',0 Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined Playback channels: Mono Limits: Playback 0 - 39 Mono: Playback 26 [67%] [-19.50dB] [on] ~ $ amixer sset Master playback 1dB- amixer: Invalid command! -- System Information: Debian Release: 9.6 APT prefers stable APT policy: (900, 'stable'), (505, 'oldstable'), (500, 'oldoldstable'), (500, 'testing'), (171, 'unstable'), (151, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386, armhf Kernel: Linux 4.19.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_US:en (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages alsa-utils depends on: ii dialog 1.3-20160828-2 ii kmod 23-2 ii libasound2 1.1.3-5 ii libc6 2.28-2 ii libfftw3-single3 3.3.5-3 ii libncursesw5 6.0+20161126-1+deb9u2 ii libsamplerate0 0.1.8-8+b2 ii libtinfo5 6.0+20161126-1+deb9u2 ii lsb-base 9.20161125 ii whiptail 0.52.19-1+b1 alsa-utils recommends no packages. alsa-utils suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
