OK. Since (I thought) I couldn't check whether my essid was set
correctly then, I just retried. It does seem to associate with the AP,
but I'm not sure. Manually setting an IP address and trying to use that
didn't work, either.

FYI, here's a dmesg output from the moment I tried to load the r67
driver (this time it didn't do the "No AP for five seconds" thing,
though). After that failed attempt, I unloaded the driver and reloaded
the r23 (working) version:
