Hello Phillip, For what it is worth, I was able to clone from your git repo, build the application, and create a .deb for Arduino IDE 1.8.8 without issue.
Is there any chance that you could import that repo into salsa.debian.org so that the folks at https://salsa.debian.org/electronics-team/arduino can take a look?
