Package: lightning
Version: 1:60.5.1-1~deb9u1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I don't know if the following is due to my inability, a limitation in apt
or some problem with lightning, so please bear with me :/

In any case, I had both lightning and thunderbird:i386 installed in
stretch, because this is a "low-memory" amd64 system, and installing some
key programs (such as firefox and thunderbirds) as i386 packages shaves
off multiple gigabytes of ram usage (or rather, swap usage in practise).

This worked fine until I recently tried to upgrade to buster. After the
upgrade, lightning was gone.

Trying to install it manually tries to pull in "thunderbird" (the amd64
package), even thought thunderbird (the i386 package) is already installed.

Trying to force the issue with:

   # apt install lightning thunderbird:i386

Fails:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
lightning : Depends: thunderbird (>= 1:60.5.1-1) but it is not going to be
installed

So the problem is that lightning has a hard dependency on the amd64
version of the package. This is common, and the normal solution for
this problem is to install the matching lightning:i386 package, but
unfortunately, lighting doesn't have a :i386 package, likely because it is
Architecture:all.

Again, this doesn't necessarily look like a problem with lightning, even
though it is the only package that causes a problem on the system. It
could well be that I am doing something wrong, or that this is a
shortcoming in apt.

I decided to bring this to your attention. If you know the right package
for this bug (if any), it would be great if you could reassign.
