Package: gradle Version: 4.4.1-5 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer,
Since the fix for bug #909905 in gradle 4.4.1-1 it has been not possible to run the generated binaries with OpenJDK 8. The patch introduced in 4.4.1-1 was loosely based on the actual upstream patch and - differently from upstream - it replaced OpenJDK 8 classloading with OpenJDK 9+ classloading scheme. The upstream patch modified classloading to _add_ OpenJDK 11 support. The 4.4.1-1 also modified gradle's Depends: to java 9. gradle 4.4.1 in itself is actually compatible with OpenJDK 8 and the packaging just added the minimum support to build and run it with OpenJDK 11. Still, that shouldn't be done in a way to remove the possibility of running gradle with OpenJDK 8.
