There's another workaround (which is the one I use): xset s off This has other consequences as well, of course, but I tend to suspend my laptop if it's ever going to be left alone, particularly if it's running on battery. And once I found a workaround which worked for my laptop, I was too lazy to find a more "proper" fix. :-) - Ted
