Good question. I'm using whatever schroot uses when using "union-type=overlay" in the chroot definition at /etc/schroot/chroot.d. While using schroot in such chroot, lsmod shows a kernel module called "overlay" being loaded and used and no traces of fuse. Is this the kernel module? (I think it is, so I'm surprised that the bug was reassigned here). Thanks.
